CBS has released a pile of new photos for the premiere episode of Survivor: Game Changers, and there are chickens involved.

The premiere date of Survivor: Game Changers approaches. In less than two weeks, Jeff Probst will open a new season of the show by probably telling us something about the theme of the season, then ending with a dramatic shot while he yells “39 days, 20 people, 1 Survivor!” There are traditions to be adhered to, after all. However, we don’t just have to imagine what the episode looks like. We can see some of it.

CBS has released some new photos of the first episode onto its press page, but we’ve pulled out some of the best.

We did promise you chickens, so let’s start there.

“The Stakes Have Been Raised” – Tai Trang on SURVIVOR: Game Changers. It seems like it wouldn’t be a good idea to name a second chicken Mark, not after the first version of Mark turned out to quietly be the one of the best parts of Kaoh Rong. Can we suggest the name Jeff for this chicken friend of Tai’s? Jeff seems like an excellent chicken name, and Jeff Varner is on Mana, so there wouldn’t be any confusion.

We knew that everyone would start things out on a ship loaded with supplies. Jeff Probst revealed that. Look at how pensive Tony seems, though. Also, it seems perfectly appropriate to have Sandra be completely in shadow. It’s probably just a coincidence, but hey, Survivor doesn’t mind a bit of symbolism now and again.

“The Stakes Have Been Raised” – Oscar “Ozzy” Lusth, Zeke Smith and Cirie Fields on SURVIVOR: Game Changers. Check out that haul of fruit that the Nuku tribe scored, presumably from the boat at the beginning of the game. That could lead to an early advantage in challenges and a lead in numbers going forward. Not all of that fruit will keep going forward, but pair it with some fish and you have a lot of protein and sugar, both important for survival.

We also knew that the tribal Immunity Idol would be an old diving apparatus, but it still looks really great. Can anyone else hear Jeff Probst telling them that “This is what you covet?” Because we can. It doesn’t look like he’s holding a flint up either. Could it be the first of what we suspect are many twists and advantages to be had throughout the game?

A series of obstacles in water? Survivor likes to keep things standard sometimes, especially with a season that’s full of returnees. Besides, there will be plenty of time to see some more esoteric challenges as the season continues.

Keeping in the theme of quoting Jeff Probst, it looks like Tai and the rest of the Nuku tribe are “going to have to dig deep.” The perspective makes it look as though there are no obstacles in the water behind them, but the flag suggests that there are and we just can’t see them.

Here’s another perspective of the same digging portion, proving that yes, it’s part of a greater challenge involving water. That net in the background also appears in this photo:

You can also spot a rolling log on the right-hand side of the photo. In other words, that water obstacle course has a digging portion to it, and thus they’re all part of the same challenge. Is it a combined Reward and Immunity challenge? That, we don’t know.

“The Stakes Have Been Raised” – Caleb Reynolds and Hali Ford on SURVIVOR: Game Changers. Now this is interesting. It’s hard to see if Caleb has anything in his hands, but it seems like this could be an early strategy session between him and Hali on Mana. Could they need to work together in order to save each other should Mana end up losing the first Immunity Challenge? After all, it does seem like Nuku has some advantages to start the game off.

So, we’re left with a few questions here:

  1. How many challenges will the premiere of Game Changers have? It only seems as though we have photo evidence of one, presumably from the first half of the two-hour premiere.
  2. What’s Jeff Probst holding? Is it really flint?
  3. How excited is everyone else for the premiere? Because we’re excited.

Game Changers arrives on March 8.
