For some players, Survivor: Micronesia was just a stepping stone on their greater journey in the game, but for these five, it should have been the end.

Survivor: Micronesia — Fans vs. Favorites is rather an odd beast. Yours truly hasn’t quite finished her look back at the sixteenth season of Survivor just yet, but with the benefit of so many seasons since then, it’s easy to say that some players who appeared on Micronesia and then came back again probably shouldn’t have done so. In some way or another, all of these players ended up disappointing in their post-Micronesia runs.

5. Erik Reichenbach

Erik’s return as a member of the favorites tribe in Survivor: Caramoan was practically perfect as far as reality TV storylines go. He’d started out as a young enthusiast of the show, made a terrible gameplay decision that remains a Survivor legend to this day (when even official CBS clips use the phrase “dumbest ever,” you know it’s a big deal), and had a chance to clear his name as a Survivor player.

But, as they say, “hindsight is 20/20,” and Caramoan ended up as a disaster for Erik, since he ended up being medically evacuated before he could make it any further in the game than he had the time before.

At least he had the opportunity to avoid his past mistake of handing over individual immunity. That counts for something, right?
