Survivor ratings: Season 35 episode 5 holds out against baseball
Despite one of the biggest sports series of the year airing Game 2 of a seven-game series, Survivor season 35 episode 5 ratings didn’t falter.
Whenever big sports events are on, even the barely interested will tune in to see athletics at its highest level of play. Game 2 of the MLB World Series may have been the craziest game in modern history, with 22.7% of all extra-inning World Series home runs taking place on Wednesday night. Even against those odds, the Survivor ratings not only held strong, but the key numbers barely faltered.
The final Wednesday night results are in, and Survivor season 35 episode 5 was watched by 8.22 million people. Surprisingly, that’s actually an upgrade over last week’s results, where 8.12 million people were watching. The key demographic of Adults 18-49 had a 1.7/7 ratings/share split, with that first number down 0.1 over last week.
Regardless, Survivor Heroes vs. Healers vs. Hustlers beat any non-sports programming on the night, with only Modern Family owning a 1.7 rating and nothing else owning a share of active television audiences higher than 6. Furthermore, SEAL Team‘s 6.92 million viewers were bested by 1.3 million, showing that only reality competitions can truly thrive against World Series competition.
With Chrissy, Ryan and Ali thrust into the middle of a heated situation and a conflict brewing in the weeks that follow, I’m glad that perhaps one of the most remarkable baseball games in modern recollection didn’t distract from a great episode of Survivor. The only chance that baseball can run against this season again would be if it reached a Game 7 between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Houston Astros.

In that scenario, it’ll be hard to keep concentration on both at the same time.
