This triple threat is ready to adapt to a game full of constant twists, Survivor Ghost Island’s James Lim is ready to sprint to the finish.

Every cast member has their own unique journey that brings them to the world of Survivor. Several young castaways in years past are still discovering themselves on the island. However, 24-year-old James Lim has been on his own for a long time. In Survivor, you must be able to thrive on your own, and he is certainly prepared for it.

James Lim is from Los Angeles and currently resides in New York City. In between these two cities he lived in Seoul, South Korea. At age 15 he would move on his own to Boston, where he would attend high school. He would not just survive without his family; he would excel. James would attend Harvard, becoming one of several ivy league graduates in the cast. He would go on to have an internship with the White House.

In college, he was a 100-meter sprinter for Harvard. He also must live a fast-paced lifestyle every day with his job. He is a management consultant and noted that he thrives in this type of environment. His physical abilities will be important for his tribe at the beginning of the game, but could certainly make him a major threat down the line.

James has one specific connection to a former winner. This would be none other than Yul Kwon, who James compared himself to. Not only do they both have Asian-American roots, but they also share a calm demeanor. James actually has a memory of Yul being on the front page of a South Korean newspaper after his win several years ago.

James is not necessarily a super fan, although he binge-watched several seasons after getting the call. He originally applied for The Amazing Race while he was in college, and made it quite far in the casting process. He was kept in the loop from CBS, and this is how he got the call for Survivor.

  • Through his interviews, you could tell that he was cool, calm, and collective. He would certainly be able to separate emotion from the game. Since he is not a massive fan, he will not be “playing for the merge” like several superfans tend to do. His intelligence might lead to strategic and smart gameplay, but he will not get complacent. He is not going to be satisfied with a jury placement.

James is not outspoken, but he still has plenty of social ability. His diverse background has seen him meet people from all walks of life. He will be able to form real connections with people, regardless of their demographics.

He referenced castaways from the same three seasons multiple times in his interview. While knowing the Survivor basics is usually all you need, Ghost Island could require a higher degree of past game knowledge. He seems to put more emphasis on pre-merge tribes than you would usually see in modern seasons. He is willing to backstab, but I feel like if he gets in an alliance, he is going to stick with it. Yul led the Aitu Four for the entirety of the game, and I think James will stick with an alliance in Ghost Island.

James is incredibly humble and is very likable. In Survivor, this is both a blessing and a curse. Throughout the history of the game, the strong men have been taken out right after the merge. James is one of several cast members in great shape, so his social connections could see him avoid this trend.  Despite his physical attributes, he relied on online videos to learn basic survival skills. While he may not have fishing experience, his strength and work ethic will allow him to provide in other ways. He plans on aligning with fellow workhorses.

Despite the honorable way James comes across, his success in the game could depend on his ability to sever ties with his alliance. He will bring a steady hand that should allow him for a deep run, but his physique will likely increase his threat status too much. I would not rule out the potential for him to run the table if he does find the right alliance. To me, he appears as a boot around the middle of the post-merge.
