It’s just ten seconds long, but the Survivor Ghost Island episode 6 promo teases a brand new function of the titular Ghost Island location for those that visit.

The dropping of the buffs is one of the most important moments in Survivor. For some, their stranglehold of power slips away in moments, suddenly finding themselves in the minority and hoping to win immunity at the next tribe challenge. For others, with friend and friend voted out in brutal execution-style eliminations, a swap represents a renewed shot in the game.

For Survivor Ghost Island, the original Malolo tribe is down to six members, while the old Naviti has a stranglehold of nine. With 15 players left in the game and possibly two more eliminations before we head to a 13-person merge for a 10-person jury, the episode 5 promo, “Fate is the Homie,” shotguns through what we know and what’s in store.

“It’s a tribe swap,” the narrator exclaims, cutting to anxious Malolo players like James, Donathan and Laurel while Wendell flings his buff like he’s sinking a basket. “But there’s a twist you won’t see coming,” follows up the narrator, with Jeff Probst capping things off by promising a “brand new start to Ghost Island.”

This “twist” could be one of many things, as this is intended to be a commercial that makes the common fan or interested third-party television watcher want to tune in next Wednesday. One twist with 15 players is that the tribes split into three groups of five, something that’s not too uncommon a scenario.

Jeff Probst’s hint of a “brand new start to Ghost Island” insists that the season-long twist has taken on a new turn. We know from Josh Wigler’s First One Out series that there’s more to the island than just its homage to the mistakes of past players. Perhaps the evolution of the games of chance will involve even more risk for a greater reward?
