The first season of Survivor aired 19 years ago and still poses some of the most memorable moments in the show’s history. What were the most memorable moments from season one?

The first season of Survivor provided us with not only the beginning of the best reality television show of all-time but also with some of the best moments the series has ever had. When asking people who only watched the first few seasons what they remember about the show, most people’s answers come from the first season.

These moments weren’t necessarily funny or the “best” moments of the season, but they were certainly memorable. When looking back at Borneo, these are the moments that people remember the most.

So, what were the best moments from season one? Let’s take a look.

HONORABLE MENTION – Naked Rich

This one is self-explanatory. Rich liked being naked, and on his birthday, he took the whole birthday suit thing literally, walking around naked all day long. It’s a moment that, for the year 2000 was pretty out there, but even now that’d be a memorable moment in any season.

5. “It’s me!”

When Pagong and Tagi merged and became Rattana, no one was sure what to do as far as Tribal Council went. Four members of Tagi formed an alliance while Sean went with his ridiculous alphabet strategy and Pagong all did their own thing.

Well, the four members of the first ever Survivor alliance ended up putting their votes toward Gretchen, who was shocked that she was the first to be voted out of the merged tribe. As her name continued to pop up, Gretchen said, “Oh my god … It’s me … It’s me!”

At the time, we were all shocked. An alliance decided who was going home and they picked arguably the nicest person on the island. Now, however, it’s crazy to see how Pagong just voted how they all wanted to without even talking to each other. But, that was the joy of season one.

This moment is now what we call a blindside, and they happen regularly in current seasons. It’s just a shame it had to happen to someone so lovely like Gretchen.
