Young vs. Old

I told you we’d get back to Samburu and here it is.

One of the more cringey moments from this season was the whole young vs. old storyline on the Samburu tribe. Initially, the tribe had four older members (Carl, Frank, Linda, and T-Bird) and four younger members (Brandon, Kim, Lindsey, and Silas), so naturally, the individuals bonded with those in their same age bracket.

Silas, at one point, had discussed joining an alliance with the older members of the tribe, but eventually stayed aligned with his fellow peers. That was where the drama ensued.

The cringiest moment from this series of events was when Lindsey made herself and the other three younger members necklaces to symbolize their bond. Even worse, she did this directly in front of the older members and made it a point to exclude them to their faces.

In episode 3, when the Samburu tribe finally lost and had to go to Tribal Council, it was glaringly obvious that the vote would be deadlocked. As noted above, things came down to Lindsey and Carl with Lindsey winning the trivia and becoming even more of a “joy” around camp after receiving four votes.

Now having the advantage, the younger ones went out of their way to be rude to the three older members of the tribe. Before the next Tribal Council, they tried to guilt the older members into voting for Lindsey at that night’s Tribal Council since the others had no previous votes cast against them. When the older members refused, the younger ones didn’t take it so well and threw temper tantrums.

Typically, having a 4-3 advantage (and after the Linda vote-off, a 4-2 advantage) would be enough to get you far in the game, but we’d soon see that the younger group shouldn’t have gotten so far ahead of themselves in a game like Survivor.
