Survivor: Marquesas, the fourth season in the series, aired in 2002 and introduced several concepts that have stuck with the show 17 years later. What were the most memorable moments in Survivor: Marquesas?

While some fans might find Survivor: Marquesas to be a dull season, some of the twists and concepts that were introduced to the game in season 4 have remained a vital part of the show nearly two decades later.

We’ll dive more into those in a bit, but before we discuss the memorable moments, I thought I’d touch on some other notable things from this season that didn’t necessarily merit an entire slide dedicated to them.

  • Sarah Jones as Cleopatra – Maraamu rowed to their beach while Sarah simply sat there, as Sean noted, “With her boobs hanging out.”
  • Giving up individual immunity was a new game move introduced – Nobody did, but we saw how important this twist would become six years later when Erik gave his individual immunity to Natalie and was promptly voted off minutes later.
  • “Oh, my heck” – Neleh Dennis coined that catchphrase throughout the season.
  • First bitter jury – The Final Two was incredibly underwhelming, but woof, this jury was bitter. John Carroll basically admitted that he didn’t vote for Neleh because she didn’t apologize to him for voting him off.
  • First time all the loved ones came out to the island – The Final Six got to see their loved ones in person on the island whereas past seasons have seen only the winner getting to spend time with their loved one
  • The awful reunion show – Remember when Survivor had someone other than Jeff Probst host the reunion show? It seems weird to think about now, but Rosie O’Donnell hosting the Marquesas reunion was enough for production to hand it over to Probst for good. This entire reunion show was cringeworthy.

With those out of the way, let’s get to the truly memorable moments from season 4 of Survivor!
