Survivor Marquesas: Most memorable moments from season 4
Tribe swap part Deux
The tribal swap in season 3 was a huge moment for Survivor, and it’s a twist that has continued on nearly two decades later. Due to the hype of the swap in season 3, it’s only natural that it returned the very next season.
In episode 4, Jeff Probst instructed the remaining 13 castaways to pick a disc at random. When called upon, each contestant would flip over their disc.
Zoe was the first to go, and when she flipped her disk over, and a Rotu buff was underneath, everyone realized what was going on. The look Zoe gave Probst was quite funny, as it was basically a “Screw you” stare.
The second swap in series history was a bit different from how they are now, as the tribes remained with the same numbers (now they’ll usually even back out). The teams were quite lopsided though, with the smaller tribe of Maraamu consisting of four women and an elderly gentleman, as we noted earlier on.
The tribe swap has become an expected part of the show, but in the fourth season, it was still an unexpected twist, and it came at the perfect time during Marquesas, as Gina was left for dead after Hunter was booted and this saved her for six more days. It also put Boston Rob, Sean, and Vecepia in a complicated situation over at Rotu, which brought plenty of entertainment.
The swap has become less and less stunning now, but Survivor has found ways to spruce it up a bit. In Cambodia, they had multiple swaps throughout the pre-merge, and that was a lot of fun to watch.
But in Marquesas, it was the second time it was done, and it worked out wonderfully.
