5 Survivor themes we want to see in future seasons
Survivor: Back to Basics
If there’s one overarching Survivor idea that unites casual, core, and hardcore fans alike, it’s the notion that the show should at least try to go back to its roots once. “Back to Basics” is my proposal, one that would see 20 idols, idol nullifiers, extra votes, vote steals, Ghost Island, Exile Island, Edge of Extinction, Redemption Island and other major twists disregarded.
When I say “Back to Basics,” I truly mean it. No Hidden Immunity Idols, no tribe swaps, a 16-player group of castaways to start; I’d love to see the show’s roots manifested in the modern era. That would be a great way to remind people that the show’s evolution has been necessary to keep things fresh, although I could do with 15-fewer idols found each season.
The best part of “Back to Basics” would be that, just like “Cambodia – Second Chances” had second names, you could call this season by its island locations. By doing so, you could hide the idea of the season going back to basics from the castaways until the merge, where they would realize that everything they knew about the modern games was cast aside.
