Survivor Island of the Idols’ Dan Spilo made a brief cameo at the Emmys
Dan Spilo mentioned he was a talent manager in his Survivor: Island of the Idols cast bio, and that includes being present at the Emmys with a nominee.
Being a talent manager has to be one of the most stressful jobs in Hollywood. You have to cater to a bunch of different egos at varying levels of fame, representing the rising stars and the fading comets at various stages of their careers. It’s a great skill set if you’re about to play Survivor, and that’s the kind of stuff that makes Dan Spilo a player to watch out for this season.
Though a talent manager usually puts themselves on the line for their clients, Survivor is going to be quite different. Dan will be putting himself in the spotlight playing for himself, which will be a fun contrast to his everyday life. However, we did manage to get a glimpse of him at the 2019 Emmys during a crucial moment of the broadcast.
CTV has the video of Patricia Arquette’s win for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or Movie for her work in The Act, acting closely with actress Joey King. Dan Spilo happens to be Joey’s manager, so when Patricia hugged her co-star before making an impassioned Emmys speech, right beside Joey was Dan, standing with hand on his heart in amazement.
Joey King was nominated for The Act as well, as she was up for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or TV Movie. Unfortunately, she didn’t get the win, but I’m sure the opportunity will present itself down the line. Still, it was surreal to see a Survivor player in the spotlight at the Emmys, even if it was for a brief moment.
Dan Spilo is not the only Survivor castaway at the 2019 Emmys. Noted People TV host and three-time player Andrea Boehlke worked the Red Carpet tonight, interviewing the top minds and creatives up for awards at tonight’s broadcast. She even had a fun moment with Emmy winner Rachel Brosnahan, as the superfan and actress reminisced over their time on the set of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.
