It’s clear that Boston Rob and Sandra won’t enter Survivor: Island of the Idols as regular castaways, but could their heavy involvement suggest a spot on the jury?

Whether you’re a fan of them or not, Boston Rob and Sandra Diaz-Twine made their presence known in the premiere of Survivor: Island of the Idols. Almost every promo for this season so far has portrayed the mentors as a focal point of each episode. Their active involvement in episode 1 hints at the power production is willing to give these two legends.

We know that they already have the power to bargain, which is something Jeff extrapolated on in a preseason interview. What we didn’t see coming was that Boston Rob and Sandra get to secretly attend Tribal Council and give the viewers their input.

It’s one thing talking to a castaway every three days and getting to know their viewpoint on the season. It’s another thing to attend every single Tribal Council and spend hours listening to and observing the dynamics of each tribe and player. With this additional twist, Boston Rob and Sandra are taking in information and knowledge that the other tribe doesn’t know about.

They get the chance to witness every event and conversation at Tribal Council, which will give them plenty of insight into camp life. With all of this knowledge, could production be preparing the mentors for a place on the jury? It’s true that they would miss the first-hand experiences on the beach, but they’re going to have one on one visits with many players on top of each Tribal Council.

That’s more than enough knowledge to become a jury member, especially after Edge of Extinction’s jury. That said, it did say on the written Oath of the Idols that they can’t cast a vote. Although I wouldn’t put it past production to bend the rules for the final vote, I think it’s improbable that the mentors will vote.

That said, I still think that their Tribal Council spy shack hints at their involvement during Final Tribal Council. I could see Boston Rob and Sandra reveal their secret booth at Final Tribal Council and address the jury and finalists before that night begins. Or maybe they’ll say their piece after the jury finishes their questions. Regardless of exactly how they get involved, Boston Rob and Sandra are bound to play a significant role in Island of the Idols.
