It feels like forever ago since Survivor: Island of the Idols began. At the same time, it seems like the merge was so recent that the Loved Ones visit seems to hang in the middle of an odd shift in the game, where players are being voted out for winning (or having the potential to win) multiple challenges and social threats have been coasting after being targeted earlier.
If there’s anything to ground the players and make them realize what they’re playing for, it’s to see who they’re playing for in the flesh. That’s right, tonight’s episode, “A Very Simple Plan,” will bring about the Loved Ones visit at the Final Eight. With players tied together in the challenge, we will likely have two winners working together, with each picking (or agreeing to pick together) who else joins them.
For half of the players in the game, it’s the chance to bond with people you inherently trust and further bonds you may need for the jury (or to get you to the end of the game). For others, it’s a moment realized where you’re not as liked or regarded not as equally as you’d like, as people will notice a snub.

Sometimes, all it takes is to get snubbed for a reward to get a plan in motion, just like we saw with Gabby realizing the strength of Christian’s social game when he saw the bond he had with his girlfriend. Will we see that kind of scenario happen for those on the bottom of the totem pole, or will those in power ward off the goat army?
