Survivor 51 started strong: 21 intriguing new players entered the game, eager to take on the world's best adventure. They were then divided into two tribes (thank goodness) and gave us three episodes of exciting (and sometimes questionable) gameplay, multiple blindsides, and the Survivor we all know, love, and missed was finally back! Even a guy quit for being too out of his depth, and the only thing missing was Jeff Probst laying down his torch in disgrace.
On episode 4, though, we were reminded of the shenanigans production has run over the last 10 seasons, which went back to three tribes, a predictable outcome, and, even more egregiously, another woman went home, making her the fourth voted out back-to-back. While I’m still holding out hope for this season, I do hope this swap mess is solved soon so we can go back to how good the season was getting. That said, let’s get to what we came here for: a strategic breakdown of everything that happened in the fourth episode, including the good, the bad, the ugly, and, hopefully, the good that can happen next.

At the start of the episode, the Toka tribe returns to camp after Patt Cannaday’s elimination. Danny Kilby asks who voted for him and gets face-to-face responses from those who did: Devin Way, Angelica "Jelly" Loblack, Mike Pinsky, and Brady Booker, the remaining players of the Toka Five. Kilby argues that the Toka Five were nearsighted to form an alliance of five in a tribe of 11. Have to give it to Kilby here, since it's pretty nearsighted not only to have five core alliance members, but also not to make a contingency plan with side numbers in case a swap happens.
Yes, the Toka Five did think they had Lewis Kelly and Carter Krull on their side, but they should’ve made sure they had the numbers regardless, with people like Jenna Doore, Maggie Nestor, or Thien An Nguyen if they were going against Kilby, therefore ensuring a solid majority with Lewis and Carter in tow. Brady is also shown livid about being "betrayed" by Lewis and Carter, when in reality neither he nor his allies ever had them in the first place.
Jelly is also shown sad about her ally Patt leaving, but the silver lining is that the only person who knew about her secret idol is now gone, too. This may be a blessing in disguise for Jelly, because even though Patt said she wouldn’t tell anyone about Jelly’s advantage, this kind of information tends to get out and get players in trouble.

The next day, Jeff surprised the remaining 17 players with a tribe swap and announced that, because Rob Antonson quit(!), there would be two tribes of six and one of five. The tribes end up being:
Savu (Purple): Jenna Doore, Ori Jean-Charles, Devin Way, Alexis Levine, and Angelica "Jelly" Loblack
Toka (Yellow): Mike Pinsky, Carter Krull, Brady Booker, Thien An Nguyen, Kristin Flickinger, and Maggie Nestor
Dina (Red): Danny Kilby, Sharonda Cox, Lewis Kelly, Eric Macksoud, Linnea Capobianco, and Cristian Chavez
This switch-up, of course, makes several people either extremely glad or scared. For instance, Kilby is excited to be set apart from everyone who voted against him, while Jenna was rightfully concerned this could’ve blown up her game. Kristin is also in a potentially dangerous situation: she is the only former Savu member in the new Toka tribe, and everyone else could pretty much come down to having the right or wrong conversation moving forward.

Kristin starts using all her life experience to gain an entry point with the former Toka members, knowing she’s in danger if they lose immunity in the future. She also tries to mend the rift between her and Carter, since they weren’t working together before Carter mutinied against Toka. Carter sees right through Kristin’s strategy, though, and this could play against Kristin if Carter uses this information against her in the future. Also at Toka, Mike is shown to be playing erratically, as he is caught telling multiple people the same information, which is then used by Thien An and Maggie as a means to potentially target him.
Meanwhile, at the new Savu, Alexis tries to build a majority coalition with her former OG Savu member, Ori, and with Jenna, because she knows the danger Devin and Jelly pose in the future. Unbeknownst to Alexis, Jenna wants to keep OG Toka strong and uses Alexis’s arguments against her with Devin and Jelly to make sure they all vote against Alexis. In hindsight, with the full picture, we all know how wrong this move was on Jenna’s part, since Devin was dead set against her from the beginning and would take any chance he got to make sure she was voted out.
Also, unbeknownst to both Alexis and Jenna, Ori, Jelly, and Devin have been working together from the beginning, as they formed the Helicopter Alliance with Sharonda and want to move forward with the group in the future. They reassess their plan, and with a potential showmance brewing between Ori and Jelly, I wouldn’t be surprised if this group becomes a force to be reckoned with once the merge hits, especially as the edit keeps bringing the alliance up in every episode.
The Helicopter Alliance may also be a means to an end for a couple of players, including Jelly and Sharonda. Especially Jelly, as she was also shown in the episode 5 preview wanting to target Devin since he’s being seen as a hindrance rather than an asset.
At the Dina camp, Eric and Kilby start getting closer because they love theatre and being nerds. Kilby is shown to be a bit more hesitant to link up with Eric, while Eric is seen to be completely over-the-moon about his relationship with Kilby. For their part, Sharonda and Linnea are wary of the duo, since both Eric and Kilby are already considered to be fickle.

After the reward/immunity challenge, where the Savu tribe was the biggest loser of the night, Alexis again tries to rally Jenna to her side against Devin/Jelly, especially after she reiterates that the duo doesn’t like her and will always be against her. Alexis also tries to get Jenna’s shot in the dark as collateral, and when Jenna tells her she doesn’t have it anymore, Alexis goes for the jugular and asks for her shoes instead. That was a weird ask on Alexis’s part, of course, but we’ve seen the chaos #jacketgate created, so maybe that’s where she was coming from.
Regardless, Jenna doesn’t fall for it and goes to Devin and Jelly to throw Alexis under the bus again. While we can sense that Devin and Jelly are already set against Jenna, Jelly questions whether it’s better for her game to keep the devil she knows (Jenna) rather than the one she doesn’t (Alexis). Another variable for Jelly is Ori, who also works with Alexis and doesn’t want to alienate him in the future.
Later at Tribal Council, we see Jelly publicly question and weigh the odds of her decision, which becomes clear when everyone votes unanimously against Jenna. While we don’t yet know how this will pan out, it might be the critical juncture that sets the game for the Helicopter Alliance in the future.
Lastly, the preview for episode 5 showed that a double elimination will happen next, and that Jelly may go up against Devin. While there are too many variables still left to resolve, the main storylines moving forward are: the future of the Helicopter Alliance (including the brewing showmance between Ori and Jelly); the nerd bond between Eric and Kilby, which could impact the Dina tribe; how the remaining Toka Five members will move forward; whether Kristin will be able to outmaneuver both her tribe and her injury; and which relationships will endure a double boot and which will ultimately crumble into the dust.
Season 51 episode 5, "Not Here to Get a Pedicure," will air on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, at 8:00 p.m. ET on CBS and Paramount+, so stay tuned!
