After one of the craziest episodes in Survivor history, what should we expect for Survivor 51 episode 3, “What I’m Smellin’ Is Stinky”

Fans won’t stop talking about last week’s episode of Survivor 51. In a shocking twist—literally, couldn’t have seen it coming—Rob Antonson tried to vote himself out of the game after Savu went on a two-challenge losing streak that seemed to be driving him over the edge. Not only that, but half of Brady Booker’s thumb is sitting on ice with the medics at base camp after he accidentally sliced it off.

And though the Toka tribe seems to understand how strategy and alliance communication work, Savu is completely in the dark on what game they’re even playing, completely deviating from the consensus vote after mishearing Carter Krull talking about catching crabs at camp.

And in the new description for episode 3, “What I’m Smellin’ Is Stinky,” it seems like things aren’t slowing down any time soon:

“In the wake of a rocky tribal council, a castaway makes a shocking move. A mysterious Tree Mail delivers a game-changing twist. Then, two castaways secretly bond at tribal council in an attempt to change the course of the vote, on SURVIVOR…”

Combining the new episode description and photos with the “Next Time on Survivor” preview we got at the end of episode 2 (below), I can’t help but wonder if we’re going to see two players step out of the game—at least one voluntarily.

Will Rob Antonson quit at the beginning of Survivor 51 episode 3, “What I’m Smellin’ Is Stinky?”

If you watch through the preview there’s absolutely no imagery of Rob at all. And looking through all the press photos, I don’t see him there either. So now knowing that a castaways makes a “shocking move” after returning from Tribal Council, I can’t help but think that Rob is just going to straight up quit this time around rather than trying to go out heroically like he did last week.

And while it’s completely possible that the photos and videos released are being cropped to draw suspense, there’s two images that specifically set off a lot of radars for me…

CBS released photos of the tribe torches bundled up together at each camp. If you look closely—specifically counting the handles—you’ll see in the Toka tribe torches photo that there are 9 torches, possibly representing the 9 players remaining at camp after tree mail instructs one player to visit the other tribe.

But when you look at the Savu tribe torches, there are only 7—one hiding behind the rest on the left side. If there are 9 players remaining on the Savu tribe after last week’s elimination of Ana Sani, and one goes to visit the other tribe, there should be 8 torches. But it seems an extra, unaccounted for torch is missing. Is that Rob’s torch, removed after he quits?

As always, we’ll have to wait until the episode airs on Wednesday, October 7 at 8 p.m. ET on CBS and Paramount+ to know for sure, but if it does happen, it’s likely going to happen in the first five minutes of the upcoming episode.

But of course that only leaves more questions than answers. Will he give his idol to Eric Macksoud? Will the tribe try to convince him to stay? Will they be mad at him for quitting right after they eliminated someone, putting them down even further in numbers?

I can’t wait to find out how last week’s weird Tribal Council plays out!
