Survivor is about to take a break (but here's when Survivor 48 begins!)

Survivor will be going on break now that season 47 has come to a close, but Survivor 48 will be here before you know it!

Another season of Survivor is officially in the books and with the end of the season, CBS’s hit series is about to go on a break.

That’s right, with the season-ending on Dec. 18, fans are now in store for a break as CBS sends the show on a hiatus. That’s the bad news, the good news is that this won’t be a long break such as the ones fans of certain shows like Grey’s Anatomy and 911 are taking. In fact, a new season will be here before spring even arrives!

Unlike other reality shows such as Dancing with the Stars, Big Brother, and The Amazing Race, which only air one new season a year, Survivor airs two seasons a year: one in the fall and one in the spring. Season 47 was our fall season and a new season will kick off the new year with Survivor 48 coming at the top of 2025!

Survivor season 48 premieres in February

As confirmed by CBS, Survivor will kick off its next season beginning on Feb. 26, 2025, at 8/7c. That’s right, season 48 will arrive just over two months after season 47 signed off the air which is an incredibly short hiatus for CBS’s long-running series.

When the season premieres fans can look forward to an extended premiere as season 48 will begin with a special two-hour premiere leading into the season finale of Hollywood Squares. Episodes will then shift back into the show’s 90-minute format for episode 2 when the show begins airing alongside the newest season of The Amazing Race, which kicks off on March 5.

While the next few months might feel long, a two-month break between new seasons isn’t actually that long at all. In fact, Survivor actually gets one of the shortest breaks between seasons during its spring and fall cycles. And CBS has lined up some fun shows to fill the gap on Wednesday nights for those looking for something to watch as we wait for the new season premieres.

Before Survivor 48 premieres, CBS will turn over its Wednesday nights to a night of game shows with new episodes of The Price Is Right at Night, Raid the Cage, and Hollywood Squares airing across the primetime slot. If these shows by chance aren’t of interest, you can always rewatch past seasons of Survivor on Paramount+ or enjoy some of your favorite Survivor alums on other hit shows airing between the break including Peacock’s The Traitors and MTV’s The Challenge.

We should also get updates on the season in the weeks ahead which will help pass the time. In the weeks ahead of new seasons, we typically get information on new twists that might be introduced as well as details on the cast. In other words, we have a break ahead but February will be here in no time and with it a new season of Survivor to enjoy.
