Alex Moore is one of the biggest stars of the Survivor 49 cast. He was featured prominently in another episode as he and fellow Kele tribemate Steven Ramm had the difficult task of slaughtering a chicken to feed his tribe.

While Alex said that the task was the hardest thing he'll probably ever have to do, it's not like his real life is smooth-sailing on a daily basis. And, that's because Alex has a challenging career as the communications director for a US Congresswoman, Jan Schakowsky, of Illinois' ninth district.

There's no doubt slaughtering a chicken is a different kind of difficult, but I think we can all admit that being a communication director for a politician definitely takes a particular set of skills.

On top of that, Alex has not had the easiest time out in Fiji. His tribe lost every challenge to start the season to the point where the show was forced to swap tribes early. Alex also lost his closest ally to snake bite. It was the first time in Survivor history that something like that has happened.

When the Survivor 49 cast was announced back in August 2025, Rep. Schakowsky voiced her support for Alex on Survivor 49 in a press release. Did Alex write the press release? We'll never know!.

Here's what Rep. Schakowsky said about Alex playing Survivor 49, via press release:

“Apparently, surviving the Republican majority in Congress was not a strong enough test for Alex! I could not be prouder of him for being cast on the upcoming season of Survivor, a truly once-in-a-lifetime adventure.

“I remember well the first time I met Alex. It was seven years ago at a local community event, and he was a young summer intern at the time. Alex was dressed in a full suit and had a huge smile on his face. He looked so professional; I almost mistook him for a fellow government official! Since that summer day back in 2018, Alex has blossomed into one of my most trusted senior advisors. I am confident that he brought the same heart, hustle, and strategy to the island that he brings to our office every day.

“Just remember, Alex, no matter what happened out there, Team Schakowsky has our popcorn ready and will be rooting for you all season long!”

As of Survivor 49 episode 5, Alex is in a great position to move forward in the game. After winning the immunity challenge in the latest episode, along with the chicken, Alex is safe for at least another episode on the Kele tribe, meaning he'll finish, at the very worst, in the top 12 of the season.

Honestly, I think Alex is destined for a better finish that, too. He seems very insulated on the new Kele tribe, which means he's probably going to make the merge. I think he could even make a play to win Survivor 49 because of how personable he is. While he might have struggled in challenges early in the game, he's performed really well of late.

As the game goes on, the only thing standing between Alex and the $1 million is his strategic game. Can he outsmart the rest of the competition? I have a feeling those skills he uses as communications director to think quickly, use strategic language, and work well with others will translate very well to Survivor.
