One thing fans tend to forget when watchingSurvivoris that the people on our screens are actual functioning members of society and not just reality show contestants. They have jobs that have helped them hone in their skills to best playSurvivortheir way. That’s why everyone is terrified to tell people they’re a lawyer each season…because lawyers always get targeted.

But which types of jobs did ourpast winnersreturn home to after becoming the Sole Survivor? Well, since almost everyone held a different job title, we categorized all our past winners’ jobs into 14 different categories and saw how each compared to the makeup of our 48 winners:

  • Advertising / Marketing - 6%
  • Athlete - 2%
  • Business - 14%
  • Communications - 4%
  • Entrepreneur - 10%
  • Labor - 8%
  • Law - 4%
  • Media - 4%
  • Medical / Police / Fireman - 14%
  • Military - 2%
  • Sales - 6%
  • Student - 10%
  • Teacher - 4%
  • Other - 12%

Now, I know some of these seem a little broad or just generally “what does that even mean?” but for the most part, we divided everyone based on the overarching occupation umbrella they fit under. So for “medical / police / fireman,” they are together because they’re people you’d call during an emergency situation. And “other” is basically anyone who doesn’t fit under a corporate-style hierarchy—think bartenders, farmers, and flight attendants.

And based on those categories, we have two types of professions that include the most amount of winners over the last 50 seasons: business and medical / police / fireman. But if you really want to get technical and divide up our emergency responders, jobs in business are 14% more likely to winSurvivorthan any other profession.

So who fromSurvivor 51should we keep an eye on?

Well, we have Cristian Chavez, our Head of Human Resources who knows how to manage people and get them through difficult conversations. Then there’s Mike Pinsky who’s an Assistant Director of Operations for a baseball team, which might sound sporty, but definitely falls under business. His job requires him to have great management and organization skills, as well as a keen strategic mind.

So will Cristian or Mike blow their competition out of the water like the seven other business-minded winners who came before them?

I’vealready theorizedthat Mike might get an advantage in the very first episode, which will either make him a huge target from Day 1, or will help him build a strong alliance that trusts him. Personality wise, he seems very non-threatening as far as gameplay goes. Unless he straight up tells people that he thinks strategically every day, he could definitely get away with hanging out under the radar until the merge.

We’ll see what happens whenSurvivor 51premieres Wednesday, September 23 at 8 p.m. on CBS and Paramount!
