5. Survivor: Pearl Islands

Survivor: Pearl Islands (with video via YouTube) is one of my personal favorites among the 33 completed seasons of this show. Not only does it have one of the coolest themes outside of China (how can you say no to pirates? You can’t. It’s just not possible), it also saw the rise of one of the show’s greatest players and one of its legendary villains.

You’ll be watching this one primarily for Sandra, who starts the season off as not being good at physical challenges but great at securing supplies for the Drake Tribe. Through the season, she has her ups, she has her downs, and she gets loud too, what the — well, we can’t reprint that entirely. As you probably know, she does end up winning the season, but even with that knowledge in hand, it’s easy to get lost in everything that happens.

Even though he won’t reappear on this season, not even in the spoiled cast, this season also contains the rise and the fall of one Jonny Fairplay, who still manages to be a great villain even after all this time. Mr. Fairplay, who tells us right off the bat that he does not actually play fair, is the reason that Sandra gets loud. They’re great, even if they clearly dislike each other.
