Considering he got voted out in an unprecedented, electric way, the Survivor Game Changers episode 4 boot was understandably surprised to be going home.

Spoiler warning for Survivor Game Changers episode 4, “The Tables Have Turned.”

God, that was a harsh tribal council. Not only did we see someone in a great position within the game go home due to a Survivor Game Changers twists, but it came at the expense of being idoled out at the hand of your best friend within your tribe.

Malcolm Freberg was sent home in 17th place out of 20 in Survivor Game Changers after both Nuku and Mana tribes converged together in order to vote out one player. There was a lot of chaos and confusion at a very live tribal council, as J.T. pleaded to Brad to get Sandra out by providing knowledge that Sierra was going to be the target.

Instead of paying back J.T. with said knowledge by voting out Sandra, Mana decided to keep things smart by taking out the biggest threat in the game, Malcolm Freberg. As Tai played his idol to negate all six of Nuku’s votes for Sierra (including J.T.’s vote), Malcolm received all remaining votes and was eliminated from the competition.

Understandably, Malcolm Freberg was frustrated that J.T. ratted out his tribe and told Brad the Nuku plan, although finding the silver lining in defeat. It’s true that if you’re going to get voted out, it may as well be “in the most ridiculous tribal council in the history of tribal councils,” as it will be remembered in the annals of Survivor history.

“J.T.’s not getting a Christmas card. Stupid kid couldn’t keep his mouth shut,” Malcolm remarks, as he suddenly becomes a lot more emotional to close out his final words. Survivor Game Changers is about making big moves amid huge twists, and Malcolm Freberg happened to be subject to the cruelest hands of fate on this one.

After playing back-to-back seasons for Survivor Philippines and Survivor Caramoan, Malcolm Freberg is in a strong position to return sometime in the future as a four-time player. The almost saddened look Jeff Probst gave him as he snuffed his torch showed that this twist might not have been the greatest after all.
