Indicative of the late start, the Survivor ratings showed more people watched Survivor Game Changers episode 5 than at any other episode this season.

Every episode of Survivor Game Changers has dialed up the heat just one more level, and so it goes for the Survivor ratings for each episode. The Wednesday night final ratings for Survivor Game Changers Episode 5, “Dirty Deed,” have shown a 1.8 rating for adults aged 18-49, with a 7 share of all active television-watching experiences. In total, 8.26 million viewers watched on as one player potentially tarnished their sterling reputation with a humiliating defeat.

The 1.8 rating is a high for Survivor Game Changers, as is the 8.26 million viewers. Comparing it to “Who’s the Sucker at the Table?,” the fourth aired episode of Survivor Millennials vs. Gen X, yesterday’s episode is down just 800,000 viewers and a 0.2 share.

Considering that the debut of Survivor Game Changers was an all-time low in Survivor ratings history, and that most shows debut strong and dwindle in viewers week to week, you can point to one of several factors why this is good.

More from Season 34 Game Changers

I’ve been beating the drum that the late start brought on by CBS airing Hunted in Survivor Game Changers‘ expected early or mid-February release spot diminished the casual viewer’s chances of starting out on the right foot. There’s already a four-month period off in summer between seasons, acting as the longest break between seasons each year, so for the Survivor ratings to jump two million in the debut from the previous season was a huge, but understandable, dip.

The second, more enjoyable, theory is that Survivor Game Changers has been so dynamic in its entertainment that people are just jumping right back into the show after hearing about the explosive first few episodes. We’ve seen Tony vs. Sandra, a tribe swap, an idol grab at a challenge, a Big Brother player go home, a few brand new twists (including one that sent a fan favorite home) and one of the most bizarre blowups in Survivor history.
