With the merge on the horizon, Survivor Game Changers episode 5 establishes a Survivor edgic with mixed perspectives and winner possibilities.

This past week of Survivor Game Changers was quite explosive. Not only did we see Debbie Wanner go absolutely bananas on her Mana tribe (albeit in a sequence of events placed out of order), but the new Nuku tribe is reduced to diminished old Mana tribe members. From the start of the game, old Mana is down in tribal numbers nine to six, and a swap is about to change things up one more time before the merge. The Survivor edgic is about to get as important as possible.

Inside Survivor is back at it again, breaking down the Survivor edgic for Survivor Game Changers episode 5, “Dirty Deed,” establishing a series of mixed, positive and negative edits in a dynamic episode.

Just one character received a complex personality rating ahead without any negativity whatsoever, as Sarah Lacina received a central scene that saw her establish a game plan and share it with the audience. It’s clear that her repeated insistence of playing like a criminal this season despite having no opportunities to act like one (thanks to no tribal council visits) will set up something in the future, and stumbling into a partner with a hidden immunity idol solidifies her prominent place in the game.

The only other complex personality in Survivor Game Changers episode 5 was Sandra Diaz-Twine, having a mixed edit this time around. The Nuku tribe conflict focused on Michaela Bradshaw and J.T. Thomas (both with over-the-top, high-visibility ratings), but Sandra stirred the (sugar) pot to the utter shock of Jeff Varner while also backing up another player as a friend.

Then there’s Debbie. I’m utterly shocked Inside Survivor didn’t give her an over-the-top double negative (OTTNN) rating, instead settling for just negative. She chided her tribe, yelled at others, yelled in confessionals, misrepresenting the truth and acting like a child during challenges, effectively killing her chance at winning Survivor Game Changers out of nowhere.

Meanwhile, the Tavua tribe exists in challenges and barely anything more. Andrea, Ozzy and Zeke all received an under-the-radar push, Cirie Fields received her first-ever invisible rating in probable Survivor edgic history, and Troyzan is elevated to middle of the road status on the back of Sarah. It’s quite possible most of these players will make it far in the game and are subject to the punishment of having a predictable, boring reign of power. Ozzy and Cirie being UTR or worse in a shared season is still odd.

Finally, the Mana tribe is filled with players that sit middle of the road or received positive Survivor edgic edits due to being on the “correct” side of the Debbie conflict. Hali Ford and Brad Culpepper have clearly been given positive edits over the past three episodes, but considering Malcolm was a complex personality up until his boot, we may be set up for a tragic downfall. As Tai finds a clue for another hidden immunity idol, they may have another safeguard.

Andrea Boehlke and Aubry Bracco are both two women who have been integral parts of previous seasons, but both have averaged an under the radar representation in Survivor edgic so far this season. With Aubry constantly on the outs and Andrea being the subtle ire of the only player with an idol in the game right now, I’m safe in assuming neither will win Survivor Game Changers.

Heading into episode 6, a tribal swap is going to shake things up for both the players and the Survivor edgic, as a bad swap can absolutely screw a power player over. Will Sandra Diaz-Twine finally lose her stranglehold in this game? Will Ozzy be allowed to make the merge? Is Tai going to find another idol? Is the surprise returning player going to be anything important?
