While everybody is talking about Survivor Game Changers episode 7 for its ending, the first half included two enthralling challenges.

This piece will show the videos for Survivor Game Changers episode 7, “What Happened on Exile, Stays on Exile” while mentioning events surrounding it.

What brings people coming back to Survivor Game Changers, just like other seasons, is the interactions between people in the direst of situations. We saw the lowest point a player could ever go to in the game last night, but the challenges that came before it gave it flourish accidentally.

The Reward Challenge mixed a few different events done in challenges past. Each tribe picked participants to untangle twisted ropes to drop down a key. Then, two players would unbundle ladder pieces and place them on an uneven archway leading up to a locked bag of balls. From there, the tribes must climb through a narrow net on the way to a catapult, where balls are shot into five nets. The winning tribe won ten pizzas and soft drinks.

As you can see in the video above, the Nuku tribe took an early lead and held onto it with force. Zeke Smith and Jeff Varner worked well in tandem to work on the ladder, as both are pretty great at working on puzzle-based challenges. Meanwhile, Brad Culpepper showed vulnerability for the first time in the game, falling to Ozzy in the catapult ending to the challenge.

With Mana tribe hungry and defeated, we saw a tribe-wide emotional breakdown. Once the tears dried up, their reserve was doubled heading into the Survivor Game Changers episode 7 immunity challenge. Four castaways on each tribe would swim to a raft, pulling themselves forward on a rope as one would dive down at three underwater stations to grab 13 balls. Once completed and brought to the end platform, the remaining three players on each tribe would spell out a word.

The tribes were trying to spell out “metamorphosis,” a word that is defined as “a change of the form or nature of a thing or person into a completely different one, by natural or supernatural means.” It’s hard not to feel that there may have been some funky editing process involved considering how Debbie Wanner’s conflict with Brad was manipulated.

Regardless of the process, the results showed that the metamorphosis of a person can come both positively and negatively. While Jeff Varner revealed the lows he could go as a player, Zeke Smith exemplified a brilliance in a way that few others could show. These challenges showed a bitter irony in how they performed as a team days before it would all change forever.

Survivor Game Changers episodes 8 and 9, “There’s a New Sherriff in Town,” will air next Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET and will run for two hours.
