While CBS’ Survivor Game Changers is heading to the finish line, Survivor New Zealand is about to start up with 16 participants on Sunday, May 7.

The quintessential Survivor gameplay experience started when CBS grabbed 16 random Americans, threw them on an island with limited materials, subjected them to challenges and tribal councils, and watched as they voted each other out until one player was left. 17 years later, the game belongs to the world now, with Survivor New Zealand throwing their hat into the ring.

TVNZ has finally debuted the profiles of all 16 castaways for their inaugural season of Survivor New Zealand, with the season set to debut on Sunday, May 7 at 7 p.m. on TVNZ 2. The first season will take place in Nicaragua, and will follow the traditional format with Reward and Immunity Challenges, a weekly Tribal Council and a Sole Survivor. The winner will receive $100,000 and the title should they win.

One thing that is a bit difference is, according to the show’s website, the contestants will face “up to 40 days in the unforgiving wilderness.” Only one season of CBS’ version has gone beyond 39 days (Survivor: The Australian Outback went 42 days long), so who knows how that extra day will affect the overall gameplay.
