Brad Culpepper talks Survivor Game Changers deals, the Varner incident
In a rare pre-exit interview, Brad Culpepper opens up on his Survivor Game Changers experience leading up to episode 12 later tonight.
Usually, players within a season of Survivor tend to stay away from interview opportunities or social media to avoid accidentally giving away spoilers. So far, however, a few Survivor Game Changers players have been tweeting during the show each week or posting their up-to-episode thoughts online. Brad Culpepper has done neither.
Until now.
As part of a mini-series about Brad Culpepper the Survivor player, he spoke to the Tampa Bay Times about Survivor Game Changers, the negative perception he received in Blood vs. Water and a deal with another player to make it to, at least, tonight’s episode.
There’s an important reason that we saw Brad Culpepper pour his heart out for his tribe, shedding tears and showing his closeness with Aubry Bracco and Cirie Fields afterward. According to Brad, he told Cirie, “‘You and I need to make a pact that we get to the loved ones episode, you hear me?’ She said yes. Absolutely. We said let’s not target each other at least until we get to the loved ones.”

If you had wondered why he hasn’t been voted out yet, considering his strength, social play and grip on the majority alliance (now flipped to the minority), it could be because Cirie has been keeping his name out of the conversation for being voted out. Now that he’s guaranteed to make the Loved Ones visit, though, his days could quickly be numbered.
He also revealed that, while he’s been actively trying to play up his heroism to shake his bad edit he received in his last season, he didn’t sit out the feast for only altruistic reasons; he was looking for an idol or some sort of advantage. “Tai and I dug and dug and dug, but there was nothing there.”

Additionally, he spoke about the Jeff Varner incident, noting that he’s kept in contact with Zeke since they left the island and that the larger Survivor community should forgive Varner for his vicious attack.
He may have been not reading as deep within the lines of what Zeke Smith has actually been saying in his own words in terms of forgiveness, but the general online hate Varner has received should definitely cease. The point isn’t to forget, but to understand the situation that the player was put in and that the moment will affect both players for years to come.
