Survivor: Game Changers doesn’t have that many episodes remaining, so it’s time to thin the herd out a little bit and have a double Tribal Council episode.

As of this week’s episode of Survivor: Game Changers, there are eight players remaining in the game. The finale, as we’ve known for quite some time now, will air in about two weeks, on May 24. That means that, for all intents and purposes, there are about four hours (counting commercials, to be specific) of Survivor left for this season.

Here’s the math:

  • One-hour episode May 17
  • Two-hour finale May 24
  • One-hour reunion, also on May 24; it usually counts as a separate episode

Before you wonder how we know that this week’s episode is just an hour, here’s CBS’ own synopsis:

"“‘Parting Is Such Sweet Sorrow'” – Only six castaways will remain after two shocking tribal councils, and castaways pour their hearts into a challenge that could be the key to their safety, on the penultimate episode of SURVIVOR, Wednesday, May 17 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network."

Someone going so far as to quote Romeo & Juliet (and subsequently naming the episode) is a little hilarious, but here we are. It certainly implies that at least one of the Tribal Councils will see an alliance member betray another, possibly someone that shares a close friendship with that person. Presumably, a bunch of hungry people won’t think to pull out Shakespeare. Perhaps it’s Probst in his good-night message to them after Tribal ends.

Of course, on a more basic level, it just refers to the fact that there are two Tribal Councils coming, and fans will have to say goodbye (for now) to two more players. Indeed, we won’t even get to see them on the morrow — at least not until the Ponderosa videos are released and the live reunion after the final Tribal Council.
