Survivor: Game Changers airs its second-to-last episode tonight, and though it won’t take more than an hour, it will leave the game altered.
One hour is all that Survivor will take of your time tonight. The season finale of the now-canceled Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders will close out the evening, preceded by another episode of the show.
Next week Wednesday will be three full hours of Jeff Probst and players of this game, more than even the premiere. It’ll have to tide us over until next fall.
In some respects, this episode may end up being more important than the finale. It’s the setup for the final moves of this game. It seems likely that there will be an underlying thread of anticipation and tension. Most of these players have been here before, and those who haven’t, like Brad, Michaela, and Troyzan, also know the game anyway — and they have access to those who have made it far, like former finalists Tai and Aubry.
It’s time for these players to start thinking very seriously about who they want to have the opportunity to make their own case to the jury. Deals have already been thrown out, of course, but is anything permanent in Survivor other than Jeff Probst?
On the one hand, loyalty to an alliance can be a positive sign for the jury. On the other, that same alliance member could make a better vote on the jury, provided that the elimination is subtle.
But all those conversations will become far more real at the end of tonight’s episode and going into next week’s finale.
