Tai Trang: Idol Hunter

During every week of our Surviving Tribal feature, I would make a joke about how Tai couldn’t be eliminated because he was busy either inventing the use of the idol, finding more idols during the time I was writing about him or building up a resume where every word was replaced with “Idol.” That’s how secure he was in Survivor Game Changers, and it all started with a curious mind.

Looking for the first idol, he just looked for one without a clue. Despite Troyzan finding one in the middle of a challenge, his clue gave him distinct directions for finding it, proving it to be a crucial tool used to get out Malcolm Freberg.

From there, he just kept on looking for idols, abandoning others on the quest of self-perseverance. He found another clue, sending him to the well of both main tribes (after the second and final swap) to find idols number two and three of Survivor Game Changers. Despite getting multiple votes three times, he never used his idols until Sarah (the voting target) used her Legacy Advantage at Final 6.

From there, the story of Tai’s idol gameplay came to a front, contributing the most important part of “Advantagegedon” by playing two of three remaining idols. That forced Troyzan to play the final idol, with Tai playing a huge part in creating Survivor history.
