J.T. Thomas – Ditching his tribe out at sea

When returning players know each other from years’ worth of charity events, past seasons and general reputation playing Survivor, it’s hard for certain “agreements” to take place before anyone goes out to play. That’s why we see so many swaps ahead of the merge; to shake up any untoward pre-game partnerships and make the game more dynamic.

We saw a tribe swap in the second week of Survivor Game Changers, as J.T. found himself the only member of the original Nuku on his new-look Nuku tribe. He knew that the deck was stacked against him, so he tried to do the only thing he could; try to find a Hidden Immunity Idol.

His methods were more renown than the search, however, as J.T. used a brilliant cover. In a group effort to go out and fish for food, one of the spearheads broke off. He went back to camp under the guise of finding a tool to fix their fishing equipment. Instead, five original Mana members floated out at sea while J.T. looked for salvation.

He didn’t find it in that episode, but he did ultimately find one at Nuku in the end! It was a great, light-hearted moments that didn’t come at the expense of spearheading Malcolm’s (and his own) game, and it gave future players a guide as to how to look for an idol.
