One of the underrated parts of the ongoing legacy of Survivor is the editors helping to shape moments on the show into a narrative. Some call it fate when they see it on television, but with so much footage going on over 39 days, a big deal of it comes down to the edit.
Regardless, at heart, the players are the drivers of the story and the story of Russell Hantz’s cockiness is nothing short of miraculous. However much you like or hate him, you have to respect his hustle, finding idols without clues and making big plays with his alliances.
In Samoa, however, he was a big troll to start, burning peoples’ socks and hiding tools. In a twist of fate, him, Sandra Diaz-Twine and Parvati Shallow all made it to the Final 3, where both players were as tired of him as the jury would be. Fed up with his aggressive behavior, Sandra unwittingly turned the tide against Russell Hantz and burned his hat in the fire.
Not only did it shake up his confidence over his bald spot, but it was a bit of poetic justice for a player who thought the world of himself. Speaking of the humble, hustled beginnings…
