One of the hardest parts of creating a reality competition is finding the right cast. You need a good mix of archetypes to mix in and create the best possibility of a great narrative. It’s why CBS has often done casting stints; to force a narrative in order to cheat one out in the early going of said seasons.

However, after 30 seasons of Survivor, someone had the great idea to give the fans the opportunity to bring back their favorite players. Second Chances, with polls running through the middle of San Juan del Sur gameplay and the reveal taking over the Worlds Apart reunion (thank god), had players vote for 20 players who had only played the game once previously.

With players dating back all the way to Survivor Borneo and making its way up to the then-current season, the fans selected one of the best casts the show has seen, adding an extra layer of determination to the players; pride. Some players had been waiting 14 years for the chance for redemption, and America finally gave them a shot.

This pushed forward one of the most dynamic seasons of Survivor in terms of gameplay, with players making tons of moves in order to make their fans proud.
