Despite Colton sending his “broke ass home,” it looks like Bill Posley from Survivor One World is making quite the name for himself in comedy.

Comedy is one of the hardest mediums in which to make a career. Sure, Survivor has had plenty of characters in their time, but rarely is it born out of legitimate attempts to be funny (a la Rob Cesternino), instead being more like a lack of self-awareness (a la Big Tom). Perhaps that’s one reason why Colton Cumbie thought that Bill Posley was a poor, pitiful character; he couldn’t comprehend someone working hard at a unrewarding (for most) dream job.

Oh, what a difference a half-decade makes.

Just For Laughs, one of the premium comedy organizations in the entire world, has unveiled their list of the “New Faces of Comedy” for 2017. Among those who thrive in character work, Bill Posley is one of ten people highlighted in this year’s class. This designation comes to people who work in sketch or improv comedy, although he certainly has a litany of accolades to back up his award.

"Bill Posley hails from a blue collar Massachusetts family but now calls Los Angeles, CA his home. He is an alumni from UCB, I.O. and Second City and has shared the stand-up stage with comedians such as Lewis Black, Godfrey and Joe Rogan. Fun Fact: he was also on Survivor. Most recently Bill was a standout in the 2017 CBS Diversity Showcase, shining as both a writer and performer."

Obviously, as indicated by the “New Faces” aspect of this recognition, there’s still work to be done before Bill Posley becomes a household name. However, it most definitely shows that his comedy career has taken off since Survivor, and we certainly do not mean to take anything away from this honor. Just For Laughs has been a tastemaker in comedy for decades, and Bill’s hard work is definitely paying off in strides.

Sounds like Bill didn’t need a “backup plan” beyond comedy, after all!
