4. Jonathan Penner

Although his medical evacuation from Micronesia (which really was that serious) directly led to and inspired his return in Survivor: Philippines nearly 10 seasons later, Jonathan Penner’s third time in the game wasn’t much different than his first two tries. Once again, alliances (and whether or not he was a part of them) really did end up being his downfall, and he didn’t get further than his initial finish in Cook Islands: seventh place.

That has to hurt.

So does losing out to Michael Skupin, the third medical returnee of the season who made it to Final Tribal.

In his defense, he was influential in naming the merged tribe Dangrayne, which, if rumors and the Survivor fan wiki are to be believed, was supposed to have a far stronger expletive in place of “dang” because the rain really was that bad in the Philippines that season. And, of course, he got to play off of Jeff Probst perpetually, leading to Probst calling him “Penner” through the bulk of the season after starting to do so in Micronesia.

But his Final Tribal jury speech did also get a little weird when he finally told everyone what Lisa Whelchel had done in her earlier days as an actress, which was something he hadn’t told anyone else throughout the game.
