From winners, to runners up and others; Survivor players watching Big Brother 19 are getting fed up with the cult-like following of one player.

Spoiler warning for Big Brother 19 from a Survivor fan’s perspective.

Earlier this year, I had started to recap Big Brother 19 as a first-time watcher of the show live as it happened. I had caught some gameplay clips from earlier seasons, but primarily I am a Survivor fan through and through. It was an interesting idea in the middle of a 4+ month hiatus between Survivor Game Changers and Survivor Heroes vs. Healers vs. Hustlers‘ debut on September 27.

Regardless, I had to quit recapping after the first official eviction because I was beginning to lose my mind. Between the inane fighting, lack of likeable characters and everyone’s willingness to back returning player Paul Abrahamian at all costs while spending weeks upon weeks trying to remove two players from the game, Big Brother 19 was quickly becoming a dud.

Now, Survivor players from past seasons have been more open in expressing their frustrations on the disappointing season, especially after last night’s dud of a double eviction episode. That said, Caleb Reynolds of Survivor Kaoh Rong and Game Changers (also on Big Brother 16) has been beating this drum for some time now, getting peeved that Cody was eliminated.

Randy Bailey from Survivor Gabon and Heroes vs. Villains has spent a good chunk of Big Brother 19 trying to get his mundane tweets from fake accounts live on the show’s crawl (with some success), as it’s the only thing to keep him going through this “almost unwatchable” season.

Rob Cesternino from Survivor Amazon and All-Stars has been watching the entire season for recaps on Rob Has a Podcast, and his history following the game can’t comprehend some of these moves, including Jason’s rambling Head of Household nomination speech as he put up Mark and Elena for eviction.

Courtney Yates from Survivor China and Heroes vs. Villains is in agreement.

As one player, Matt, essentially confirmed that he’s been playing to eat 1,000 bowls of cereal by the time Big Brother 19 is over, Aubry Bracco of Kaoh Rong and Game Changers gave us some footage of him in action.

Sarah Lacina, winner of Survivor Game Changers and merge vote in Cagayan, had enough of Matt’s cereal shenanigans, too.

Prominent Survivor quitter Colton Cumbie retweeted Janelle from Big Brother 6, 7 and 14, who knows more than others the history of the game and can sum up fans’ feelings quite easily:

As Elena was (predictably) sent home, three-time player and Survivor Blood vs. Water winner Tyson Apostol gave his Big Brother 19 exit strategy for if he got evicted.

Jessica Lewis of Millennials vs. Gen X fame, subject to the most unpredictable of Survivor fates, saw how predictable last night’s double eviction was after Jason won the HoH.

Finally, “Chaos” Kass McQuillen of Cambodia and Cagayan summed up fans’ worst fears; that they’re witnessing Redemption Island in Big Brother form.

Time will tell if Paul’s lemmings will finally wake up closer to the end and plot to take him out, but a double eviction episode could have been the perfect scenario to shake up the house. Instead, “the house” followed “the house’s” wishes (read: Paul’s wishes) and eliminated two people who are willing to speak up against him. If Mark doesn’t get safety soon, it could be game over with just three people in the jury.

How Big Brother 19 ends will determine if Paul does ultimately play the Boston Rob strategy of leading a cult on the dance towards the finish line. Still, at this point, the Survivor players know a Redemption Island repeat when they see it.
