Survivor Gabon’s Sugar Kiper was a pin-up model as shooting for 40’s noir detective game LA Noire was going on. It was a natural fit.

A few of you may know, but in addition to covering the latest Survivor stories, I also write about video games for Surviving Tribal’s sister site, App Trigger. Very rarely do both fields of entertainment overlap with each other, but each time it does happen I leap at the chance to cross over. Today, that comes with the re-release of 40’s noir detective game, LA Noire, making its way to the PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.

How is that related to Survivor? Funnily enough, one of the pivotal cases in the game heavily features Survivor Gabon’s Sugar Kiper! She stars in “The Set Up” case, portraying Candy Edwards, girlfriend of boxer Albert Hammond. Albert was supposed to take a dive in a boxing match but ended up knocking out his opponent and trying to flee Los Angeles with the winnings taken from known LA mobsters and crooked officials. The player controls honest LAPD detective Cole Phelps as he collects clues and interviews subjects in order to bring each case to its conclusion.

The case eventually leads the player to Candy Edwards, who is questioned about her knowledge of Albert’s whereabouts and the current state of their relationship. LA Noire was first released in 2011 and used then-groundbreaking technology to create impeccable scans of actors’ faces and bodies in order to realistically portray them within the game. Candy Edwards, as a result, looks quite remarkably like Sugar Kiper within the game.

She doesn’t just make a brief cameo, either. Cole suspects that she’s not telling the full truth with her story, so you have to tail her through Los Angeles as she heads to collect her winnings and meet up with Albert. I’ll avoid spoilers by detailing much further, but it’s still remarkable and jarring to see one of the Survivor Gabon finalists appear so prominently in one of the biggest games of its time.

Once again, LA Noire is out today on PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch, and has been available on PC via Steam for years.
