The latest episode of Family Guy opened with an allusion to Survivor as the Griffins vote out Brian and Jeff Probst snuffs his torch.

You wouldn’t guess after two cancellations, but Family Guy is in its 16th season and about to hit its 300th episode. It shares a similarity with Survivor in that people still ask the question, “Is that show still on?” Regardless what you think of the quality of the show, they do go fairly detailed when they make a parody of popular culture, and they went as far as to dedicate their opening to Survivor.

As you can notice in this clip, it begins with “Previously on Family Guy” with the actual Jeff Probst providing the voice-over recap of the previous episode. Basically, Brian told a racist joke on Twitter and the town got so mad at the Griffins that they decided to kick him out of the house for the family’s safety.

Since fans of Family Guy know that already, we get to see it refreshed in the style of Survivor, with Stewie cutting a confessional about how he was a real twit for using Twitter in such a stupid manner. Four members of the family voted Brian out of the house, while Peter reveals that he hasn’t pooped in 33 days. He’s clearly getting the Bruce Kanegai edit from Survivor Panama!

What’s odd is that as Brian gets voted out by his family, Peter says that Jeff Probst is the only person who could pull off sandals and cargo shorts. I’m not sure if I’ve ever seen Probst wear sandals on the show before. If so, it would be weird for Family Guy to get this detail wrong, especially since former writer for the show, David Wright, almost won the game!

Either way, it was a satire of Survivor that didn’t involve people insisting the show is fake or making outdated references to the show’s early days while using the show’s editing tricks to dictate the flow of the game. That’s certainly an improvement!
