#2. JP Hilsabeck

I’ve written this piece of the slideshow backward for reasons that will be obvious when you get there. It was the first thing I could think of when talking about JP Hilsabeck, a player with so few confessionals that four pre-merge players, including somebody who lasted just three episodes, each have had more solo camera time than him.

There are two reasons we haven’t seen a lot of JP in Survivor season 35. First off, the editors are going to reward players who have interesting insight into the game with screentime, and JP does not have many interesting things to say. Each one of his confessionals involves him eating his own words, mumbling about nothing and making vague cliches like “at the end of the day,” etc.

To those who will bring up his secret confessionals, including one where he talks about playing for his sister who has ITP, that he has at least something to say, I bring up the second reason why JP’s been invisible; he’s not going to win the game, let alone have a meaningful impact on the game. Hell, Sunday Burquest opened up about her breast cancer while on the island, but she got a nonplussed edit and a quiet boot as not to overshadow Adam Klein’s heroic win.

JP isn’t a target yet because everyone knows he can’t win. And things like that.
