Whether it’s been 20 returnees or 18 newcomers, a few standout players have done a good job on the tweet game. The Survivor Awards 2017 honors them!

One of the hardest things a Survivor player has to do after playing the game is pretending that they didn’t play the game. Even though cast lists will get spoiled within weeks of filming wrapping up, players still have to go about their daily lives while doing their best not to break their non-disclosure agreements and get in big trouble with production.

However, once the cast has been officially revealed, it’s open season for commentary inside and outside of Survivor, allowing the players to open up a bit more and really allow fans to get to know them. That’s why the Survivor Awards 2017 will honor the best players to debut their social media accounts to the Survivor fandom this year.

Despite being a two-time winner, Sandra Diaz-Twine never bothered to set up her Twitter account until this year. It was all due to Courtney Yates poking and prodding her, giving us a look at the Queen of Survivor as she prepared to play on Game Changers.

She didn’t tweet often during her season, but her call-outs were fantastic, especially aimed at JT for his double Tribal Council shenanigans.

Another Survivor Awards 2017 runner-up for best follow on social media came from someone who may legitimately be way too busy to be tweeting, but he offers us great insight anyways. Dr. Mike Zahalsky was very much tuned into the Survivor community, often engaging fans and critics alike while sharing (and reading) theories into the show.

Not only that but as a urologist, Mike used his platform to incorporate messages about men’s health to his followers, making sure everyone is as safe as can be. Who could forget some of Dr. Mike’s classic advice?

Warning: Some of these fertility-related tweets include audio about NSFW topics.

However, if we have to recommend anyone for following on social media, make sure you follow Joe Mena. You have to appreciate the controlled chaos of his tweetstorms, as while he can appear to be a bit fast and loose with his words, he does so in love and appreciation for the show. Whether it’s words, video clips or theories, Joe Mena is an ardent follower of online Survivor conversations.

He was one of the first people on Twitter to get 280 characters, and each one of them, including his various clown emojis, was used to perfection throughout the year. There’s no better hype man than Joe Mena, and he is certainly the most outspoken of any player this year. Do you have an honest question for him? He’ll likely answer, even if the answer has warts and all. He’s abrasive, sure, but he keeps it as real as he sees it.
