6. Game Changers
When Game Changers was announced at the Millennials vs. Gen X reunion and Cirie, Ozzy and Sandra were brought on stage, I was pumped. The promise of a returning player season compromised of some of the game’s biggest players was enough to make any Survivor fan water at the mouth.
However, once the full cast was announced, I started to become weary. Why were former players like Hali Ford and Caleb Reynolds being lumped in with legends like Sandra and modern powerhouses like Brad and Aubry? Don’t get me wrong, I love Hali and Caleb, but they aren’t game changers.
Suspending my apprehensions, I watched Game Changers each week and found myself largely bored. Aside from the occasional shocking moment like Malcolm’s exit or Varner outing Zeke, the season seemed to lack the energy you would expect from a cast of game changers. With that said, I think Sarah was a very deserving winner after playing one of the smartest games in the show’s history.
However, she couldn’t save the season and it will go down in Survivor history as a mediocre attempt at an All-Star theme. If producers were to bring this theme back, I would hope they would construct a cast of true game changers, with no weak links who detract from the season.
