Survivor retrospective: Ranking returning player seasons
By Chris Bailey
3. Blood vs. Water
Blood vs. Water brought a whole new dimension to Survivor when former castaways were forced to work with (or against) their loved ones.
The cast included a number of former castaways fans had been asking to see again with former winners Tina Wesson and Aras Baskauskas joining old-school favorites like Gervase Peterson and Rupert Boneham.
Castaways were shocked when the returning players were separated from their loved ones on day one, realizing that their win could result in their loved one being sent home. The game featured memorable moments including Gervase’s niece Marissa and Candace Cody’s attack on Brad Culpepper, the second rock draw in the show’s history and Ciera Eastin voting out her mom.
Tyson Apostol played a strategically savvy game and took home the title after beating Gervase and Monica Culpepper at the final tribal council. While the second iteration of Blood vs. Water failed to live up to the excitement of the first, the original season created a new twist on the game that shocked even the most seasoned veterans.
