With a name like Survivor Ghost Island, Tribal Council design had to go above and beyond. Fortunately, SEG delivered on an appropriately spooky set.
ET Canada has been killing it with their preseason coverage of Survivor Ghost Island. Not only do we now know that there’s a plan in place in case Jeff Probst gets injured, as well as a list of several locations the game was supposed to go but was scrapped, we finally get to see what’s going on at this season’s Tribal Council.
Their Survivor Ghost Island Tribal Council tour is tantalizingly short but captures the spirit of the ghostly theme this season will provide to viewers. Several Fijian totems and statues will be shoved almost directly into the players’ faces as they head towards their hours-long grilling spot, with skulls and fire being the oft-repeated design idea adorned everywhere. Even the vote urn is covered with a massic shell that has skulls attached to the side, tied together by rope.
The set seems decidedly claustrophobic in its creation, with spiked branches serving as fences and headpieces of Fijian totems towering over the players. However, the main attraction is the voting booth, with a bridge leading to a huge, wooden skull with blazing, burning eyes set to devour castaways as they vote out their fellow tribe members.
From an aesthetic standpoint, the Survivor Ghost Island Tribal Council set may be one of the best hand-crafted designs we’ve ever seen. There is no topping physical destinations of historical accuracy such as the Mayan temples of Guatemala, but it seems like production is not performing any half measures with season 36’s theme. The fire and the totems play into the skull design of the Ghost Island logo, come together quite nicely.
