Although two were sent home after the Survivor Ghost Island premiere, there are several players who still have a strong case to win the entire game.
Survivor Ghost Island premiered on Wednesday with a two-hour episode, and there were several players who stood out as potential winners. What I’ve learned from watching Survivor is that there are usually signs early on as to who could be the winner of a season, even after watching just the first episode.
In the premiere of Ghost Island, there were a few different types of edits. There were the over-the-top players, the intriguing players and the people who were basically invisible. Obviously, the over-the-top contestants are ones to be wary of when it comes to predicting a winner, and we saw that all too well with Jacob getting the boot in the second hour of the premiere. It’s also probably a safe bet that Donathan doesn’t win either, as inspiring as his performance at the immunity challenge was.
Sometimes the lesser-known players end up being key figures down the road (think back to Amanda in China), and players like Jenna and Wendell could fit into that mold for Survivor Ghost Island. Jenna appeared to get a decent amount of airtime and was Stephanie’s right-hand woman when it came to deciding Jacob’s fate. Could that be the beginning of a budding alliance?

It was tough to really get a vibe on a lot of the players from the Naviti tribe since they won both immunity challenges and didn’t have to go to Tribal Council. With that said, Wendell’s “I went to law school, but followed my dreams instead” confessional in the first hour jumped out at me. We typically don’t see those type of confessionals if that player doesn’t go far in the game.
Morgan was the other player from Naviti that was interesting to me. Jacob had a lot to do with that since he willed her the Legacy Advantage, but that will continue to be a storyline over the next few episodes and could make her a big character, especially with a tribe swap coming in the next episode.

Most of the airtime, however, was dedicated to the Malolo tribe, which is usually the case when a team can’t win challenges. I touched on how Donathan probably wasn’t going to win, but what about the rest of his tribe?
A player that jumped out right off the bat was Stephanie, who seemed to get a lot of airtime in the premiere. Stephanie was intriguing right away, and while she did have a bunch of confessionals, she seems to know what she’s doing and could be getting a “winner’s edit.” She had a hand in voting Gonzalez out at the first Tribal Council and volunteered to “buddy up” with Jacob before the second vote.
The other player on Malolo to keep an eye on is Brendan. He was voted to lead the team in the very first task of the season and continued to be a prominent face shown throughout the two episodes. What stood out about Brendan was that he appears to be able to detect BS from a mile away. He didn’t seem the least bit fooled when Jacob was giving that “I found an idol” schpiel.
We’ve only seen two episodes so far of Survivor Ghost Island, so it’s still up in the air as to who could be holding the million-dollar check in a few months. If I had to guess a winner after the premiere, Stephanie would be my choice. At the very least, she should be an important player throughout the season.
