To reverse the curse in Survivor Ghost Island, it sometimes takes drastic measures. The episode 7 preview shows just how low Malolo can go.
There’s no hiding from the fact that Survivor Ghost Island has always been about how players can reverse the curse of past mistakes. It has become the meme of the season, being baked right into the edit, players’ confessionals and even as a warning to the players on the physical Ghost Island location.
Malolo has taken the idea of being cursed to heart, going so far as to try and “reverse the curse” by burning their tribe flag. That much was known in last week’s episode during the “Next time on Survivor” preview, and it becomes the message once more in the truncated promo for Survivor Ghost Island episode 7, “Gotta Risk It for the Biscuit.”
At the very least, we know that Desiree is leading the charge on the “reverse the curse” mentality in a confessional, as Michael and Angela are seen burning the Malolo banner flag over top the tribe’s campfire. If you were to tell me before the season started that the ex-Military lady and oldest player in the game would take part in a flag-burning ceremony, I would have thought you were crazy.
Even though there have been exactly zero Malolo players who have voted out Naviti players on any of the post-swap orange beaches, you can tell that the players don’t even want to risk going back to Tribal Council once more. With a three-tribe format to go right before the merge, it’s likely that we get to see this as a cleansing fire rather than a destructive fire. That, or Malolo really is one of the worst tribes in Survivor history.

Our perceptions are a bit fuzzy on this one, as even Jeff Probst was saying at the last Tribal Council that Malolo may never win an Immunity Challenge despite having won the first after the first swap. We’ll just have to see how this flag-burning activity plays out on Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET.
