The Original Freakout – Season 1

I had to include what made the challenge what it is today, right? In season 1 episode 2, the 15 remaining contestants each had to eat a grub. Seems pretty easy compared to what reality show contestants have to eat now, but for its time, one single grub was pretty disgusting.

Gervase Peterson was the only one who struggled with it, but eventually, he ate his share, and the challenge ended in a tie. From there, a player from each team was chosen by the other team to eat the grub again as fast as possible. Gervase would do his freakout stance where he slapped his head while attempting to eat it, but Stacie Stillman beat him.

Thirteen years later, Gervase would appear on Blood vs. Water and somehow made it to the finals of the food eating challenge. The final food item in that challenge was, you guessed it; a grub.

Gervase lost that challenge to Monica Culpepper, but him making it that far in a gross food competition seemed like redemption enough to me.
