Though it was hinted at before the season began, the Survivor Ghost Island finale synopsis solidifies the notion that the Final Four will face making fire.

Ever since Survivor Worlds Apart, there has been a swelling emphasis on adding advantages, hidden powers and other extras into the game. Secret vote, extra vote, Legacy Advantage; it has never been more important to focus on trinkets and twists, and to expect the unexpected.

Perhaps the biggest fundamental change to end-game dynamics is the forced Final Four fire-making challenge. It absolutely blindsided the Final Four of Heroes vs. Healers vs. Hustlers, as Chrissy Hofbeck, Ryan Ulrich and Devon Pinto were no longer allowed to simply vote out Ben Driebergen. Instead, Chrissy had the “advantage” to bring someone to the end while everyone’s target had a chance to stay safe.

Though it was a complete surprise last season, some preseason Ghost Island interviews hinted at the players knowing about the Final Four twist in order to maintain continuity in Survivor, as Jeff Probst let the audience know it would return in the next season. If there was any sliver of doubt that it could be passed up, all hopes have been dashed with the official synopsis for the finale this week.

"Castaways try to navigate their way to immunity when facing the biggest maze in the history for the game. Also, a fire-making challenge could change one person’s fate in the game, and, after 39 days, one castaway will take home the $1 million dollar prize and title of sole Survivor …"

The rest of snippet discusses the two-hour finale following the Final Six’s attempts to win Ghost Island and the million-dollar prize that comes with it. Last season saw a more truncated reunion, as we got post-elimination interviews filmed live as the season’s content aired. That left Jeff Probst speaking to just a handful of people at the reunion show.
