As Survivor: David vs. Goliath episode 1 kicks off, Angelina Keeley establishes overconfidence in the preview for “Appearances Are Deceiving.”
We are now in the double digits of hours away from the premiere of Survivor: David vs. Goliath. The underdogs and the privileged will learn their designations, the competitors will receive their buffs and Jeff Probst will introduce the cast of characters to one another. Look no further than to CBS for the first extended look at the season’s debut!
The CBS Entertainment press page has released more than two minutes from Survivor: David vs. Goliath episode 1, “Appearances Are Deceiving.” The previously teased boats filled with the two starting tribes are headed to a larger vessel, with the Goliath tribe arriving first so they can take a look at the David tribe as they climb up.
This isn’t likely how the episode starts, as Jeff is oft to describe the competitors, get a few snippets from some highlights before offering up his patented signature; “39 days, 20 people, one Survivor.” Angelina Keeley, however, does highlight this preview with some high praise for her tribe and some damning criticism of the others, holding her heart to her chest as if to pity their existence.
It’s an important reveal for how the tone of Survivor: David vs. Goliath will feel in the early going, as it is reminiscent of Millennials vs. Gen X in the “us vs. them” mentality. Although Jeff Probst has yet to ask any Goliath players if they text “you” or just “u,” he does offer a compelling structure for the season, contrasting the underdog matchup with the idea that it’s not who has the advantage, but what is the advantage.
The Davids are fine to receive that designation, while the Goliaths are not as excited. It will be an interesting editing test to provide a compelling narrative for the season if the Goliaths curb stomp the Davids, and I cannot wait to see the full episode 1 premiere in its 90-minute entirety this Wednesday, September 26 at 8 p.m. ET.
