As we know from the episode’s synopsis, the premiere episode will be titled “Appearances Are Deceiving.” A cyclone is going to have a strong presence in the beginning, as the hard rain pouring down on the competitors that don’t have a proper shelter is going to change the early game dynamics. Fire in the form of flint will be drastically more important than ever.
The last time there was a 90-minute debut for a season was during Survivor: Millennials vs. Gen X. That, too, started out with a torrential downpour, forcing Jeff’s hand and having production shutdown and the tribes head back to production’s base camp. There hasn’t been any teaser like that so far, so let’s see how well these players adjust when making a shelter.
The very first Survivor: David vs. Goliath episode 1 preview showed us a strong divide between David and Goliath tribes, with Angelina straight looking down on the opposing tribe with a “bless their heart” mockery at the opening marooning. With the title “Appearances Are Deceiving,” it could relate to a David player talking after a victory or hoping for one that doesn’t happen.
