Survivor: David vs. Goliath episode 2 starts just a tough and difficult as the premiere, with the rain failing to give up after taking its first victim.

Only two players have ever been medically evacuated on Day 3 of a Survivor season, but David vs. Goliath‘s Pat Cusack was especially robbed of a fair chance. Sustaining an injury by getting transferred in a boat back to his camp, it showed just how unpredictable and harsh the weather could be when you least expect it.

Now we have two sneak peek videos serving as a Survivor: David vs. Goliath episode 2 preview, showcasing just how cold, damp and miserable life can be with three full days and nights without warmth or proper food. The first video takes us directly to camp life after Pat’s unfortunate accident, as neither the David nor Goliath tribe can get a fire started due to everything being too damp to catch a flame.

Just as Gabby’s perspective on Pat’s departure ended the previous episode, now we see Jessica’s tearful goodbye to Pat as the tribe desperately tries to make fire. That plan is quickly abandoned, as both tribes struggle to get through the night through the torrential downpour and unending winds. It’s like a slow death for these players; unforeseen, unforgiving.

The Goliaths can’t make fire, even with their half-day advantage of having flint early. You can’t make fire if you don’t have dry firewood, and that’s a problem for both camps.

It looks like there is an end in sight, however, as Day 6 brings the tribes together to compete in the Immunity/Reward Challenge. It’s here where the Goliath tribe learns the fate of Pat Cusack, who they all seem to be surprised in seeing him eliminated. You can feel their instant empathy when Jeff Probst reveals that it was due to a medical evacuation.

Of course, the editors want to hide as many empathetic viewpoints from the Goliath tribe as possible, as they have a narrative to build. Still, these Survivor: David vs. Goliath episode 2 preview videos showcase that nobody is safe from the storm, and everyone is ravaged by the rapid changes to our Earth’s climate.
