Cyclones, power couples and the Goliath tribe continue to dominate Season 37 of Survivor. And what is happening with Dan’s idol?

Just two episodes in and the biblically inspired season, Survivor: David vs. Goliath seems to be going in the opposite direction of the events of the story. The Goliath tribe has won the first two Immunity Challenges, but Bi made it clear that this loss wasn’t going to affect the David tribe’s performance going forward.

Between an epic challenge, plenty of idol talk and our first Tribal Council, this episode was filled with interesting trends that will play a significant part in the weeks to come. Let’s dive into three big takeaways from episode two of Survivor: David vs. Goliath.

Power couples are joining up. One key element we saw from Day 1, was the emergence of power couples, but two people don’t make a majority. Yesterday’s episode saw the development of these pairs bonding together to form alliances.

On the David tribe, we had Christian and Gabby team up with Lyrsa and Elizabeth. With Nick’s help, they were able to take the target off of Lyrsa and send Jessica packing. It’s unclear how long this foursome will last, but it has already been pivotal in altering what figured to be a unanimous Lyrsa vote out.

On the Goliath tribe, Dan and Kara’s showmance continued, and what a shocker, they weren’t able to keep it a secret! There was also a fantastic strategic discussion happening along the shore, informing us of Natalia’s hold on Alec and Angelina’s friendship with John. These three pairs together would make for a strong group of six going forward.

Does anyone ever learn about idol management?!?! Dan was a major focus of yesterday’s events. Not only did Kara and Natalia know about his idol coming into this episode, but Dan decides to leave the idol stuffed in a sock! Jeremy finds it while he’s on snoop patrol and is quick to inform Mike who is nearby.

Didn’t Dan learn from Heroes vs. Healers vs. Hustlers how important it is to keep your idol hidden? Dan’s laid back, careless attitude could spell disaster if Jeremy and Mike want to make a move before booting Natalie. Let’s hope that Davie can contain his excitement and demonstrate how the big boys use an idol.

The beginnings of a dangerous women’s alliance? That scene of Angelina, Kara and Natalia plotting on the beach was almost chilling, giving us flashbacks of Cirie, Parvati and Amanda from Survivor Micronesia. Similar to that legendary trio, we saw from their conversation how much these women were willing to use and influence their male partners to gain the majority.

Even in pregame interviews at Ponderosa provided by Josh Wiggler’s First One Out Podcast, several Goliath members including Jeremy and Alison were vocal about the threat of a women’s alliance. With their current relationships and knowledge about Dan’s idol, the power could swing to form the first dominant female alliance in 13 seasons!
