It’s more clear than ever that the winds and rain showed off in the Survivor: David vs. Goliath episode 5 preview is otherworldly for the castaways.

Though the biblical story of David vs. Goliath is an underdog story of human vs. human, Survivor: David vs. Goliath has been given equal time to the players versus themselves and collectively against nature. As Christian Hubicki eloquently put it in the episode 5 promo, nature is the Goliath, and everyone else is the David.

This much becomes extremely evident in the Survivor: David vs. Goliath episode 5 preview video, showcasing the Jabeni and Tiva tribes at their lowest points. Nick is narrating the tribe’s hardships, explaining how they can’t eat rice, can’t make fire, can’t stay warm or do much of anything due to how hard it’s raining. We even see him and Angelina try to hold the tarp over the fire pit.

Meanwhile, at the Tiva camp, the shelter is in a less than ideal position, with the rain completely submerging the area around the roofed sleeping areas. The fire pit, as well as a huge part of the center part of the camp, was leveled with a thick pool of water, as “tornadic winds” ripped their camp apart.

Even the Mayor of Slamtown, John Hennigan, has been a bit perturbed by the rain, describing it as the worst he’s ever seen it during Survivor: David vs. Goliath. With rain and wind ripping up the tribes and spitting sand in the players’ eyes, it’s only a matter of time before it’s officially confirmed within the episode what we’ve been speculating; the tribes might be evacuated.

Happening only once during the early stages of Millennials vs. Gen X, even the production-assisted tarp is not enough to give the players the chance to scratch and survive. They need fire; they need food; they need water not to be permeating through their camp. I’m sure not long after this preview video we’ll see Jeff Probst hop on over and take the tribes back to base camp.
